About the Role
The Managing Director, Head of Large Corporate Treasury Sales, Japan is accountable for defining and executing the firm’s treasury sales strategy for large Japanese corporates and multinational companies operating in Japan. This role has full responsibility for origination, revenue growth, market penetration, and team leadership across cash management, payments, liquidity, working capital, trade, and transactional FX solutions. This is a player–manager role, personally leading strategic client origination and senior-level client engagement while building, coaching, and managing a high-performing local treasury sales team.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the Japan large corporate treasury sales strategy, covering large Japanese corporates globally and multinational companies operating in Japan.
- Personally lead strategic client origination and engagement with Japan-headquartered corporates as well as regional and global multinationals with significant operations in Japan.
- Drive mandate acquisition across cash management, liquidity, payables, receivables, trade and supply chain finance, corporate & commercial cards, and transactional FX.
- Build and maintain C-suite and Treasurer-level relationships, acting as a trusted advisor on liquidity, working capital, and treasury transformation.
- Identify market opportunities and develop targeted strategies to grow market share.
- Lead complex, multi-product treasury dialogues for large Japanese corporates and multinational clients operating in Japan.
- Own and lead treasury sales coverage for Japanese headquartered clients globally, in partnership with regional and global coverage teams.
- Deliver tailored treasury and working capital solutions reflecting Japan-specific regulatory and operating requirements.
- Serve as a bank representative presenting at key industry events, leading consultative discussions at multiple levels of the organization, and providing product line expertise.
- Act as the primary bridge between Japan-based clients and global treasury, product management, and balance sheet partners.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Japan Large Corporate Treasury Sales team.
- Act as a hands-on player–manager in senior client engagements and complex deal execution.
- Challenge end-to-end process efficiency and effectiveness, championing data driven decision-making and removing obstacles to optimize operations.
- Inspect and manage the health of the bench to ensure succession for the organization, while supporting enterprise talent needs.
- Contribute to enterprise strategy and influence messaging to connect team contributions to business purpose, results, and success.
- Set clear performance expectations and accountability aligned with franchise goals.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, compliance, KYC, and internal governance standards in Japan.
- Ongoing collaboration with banking coverage and wholesale credit to ensure deal flow aligns with internal risk appetite.
- Uphold the firm’s reputation and risk culture in all client interactions.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in treasury, transaction banking, or working capital solutions covering Japan large corporates as well as multinational corporates operating in Japan.
- Proven experience leading senior sales professionals.
- Strong executive presence and ability to influence CFO- and Treasurer-level stakeholders.
- High energy level with a strong work ethic and a continuous desire to learn.
- Deal origination and execution.
- Risk awareness and credit discipline.
- Strategic thinking and commercial acumen.
- Fluent Japanese and English.
