About the Role

The Water Hygiene Assistant is responsible for supporting the operational delivery and ensuring water safety, labour, and infrastructure are in place for the correct, safe, and efficient function of critical and non-critical healthcare water services. This role supports the Estates & Facilities Leadership team with proactive water safety management and acts as a key contact for operational water safety issues.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the effective control of legionella & Pseudomonas and compliance with legislation by performing routine maintenance to water systems.
  • Undertake water flushing and maintenance works to support the Estates & Facilities team.
  • Record data accurately and escalate non-compliance/defects immediately.
  • Liaise with caregivers to perform all works effectively.
  • Organize daily workload to complete tasks according to priorities, quality standards, service level agreements, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure the provision of healthy and safe working conditions and effective implementation of health and safety policy and process.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure the development of water safety, effective teamwork, and support to caregivers.
  • Review appropriate control systems to ensure statutory, mandatory, and policy commitments are met.
  • Deliver customer focus within all areas of water safety activities and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and caregivers.
  • Produce regular reports to demonstrate service delivery.
  • Act as Competent Person (CP) in relation to specific maintenance responsibilities for Water Safety.
  • Comply with relevant health and safety policies, standards, risk assessments, and methods.
  • Perform routine checks of plant and equipment and undertake planned preventative maintenance (PPM) assessments.
  • Flush water outlets throughout the estate, arranging attendance with each site.
  • Identify and flush regularly unused outlets to comply with legionella guidelines.
  • Perform reactive works linked to flushing activity based on daily needs.
  • Update information via maintenance software and necessary records, including signing the site logbook accurately and evidentially.
  • Assist in the general tidiness and cleanliness of the CCL Estates environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience working in new clinical properties is desirable.
  • Experience in Water safety is desirable.
  • Previously held CP positions in a health care environment is essential.
  • Experience of CAFM System is desirable.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft Office or equivalent is desirable.
  • Must be able to react in a methodical and controlled manner, implementing agreed escalation procedures.
  • Must be able to keep the WSG (Water Safety Group) Estates & Facilities management & caregivers fully briefed.
  • Required to communicate to caregivers on all aspects relating to water safety.
